Established in 1998, Lung Fu Shan is a popular spot for many members of the public, with morning runners and hikers trekking its trails on a regular basis. While it includes the smallest country park in Hong Kong at just 47 hectares, it boasts a surprisingly rich diversity of nocturnal species, such as the Malayan porcupine, golden-spotted tiger beetle, tarantulas and even the uncommon Banded krait. The invasive greenhouse frog can also be found along its hills, which is considered a threat towards the endemic Romer’s tree frog.

Besides being the habitat of over a hundred bird and butterfly species, there are also historical relics such as the Pinewood Battery and handmade reliefs made by hikers in the Western District before the establishment of the country park, which is a unique characteristic of Lung Fu Shan. During the safari, Benita Chick gives fascinating insights into the biodiversity environment of Hong Kong. Members are welcome to bring their own photography equipment.

Benita Chick has abundant experience in working in the environmental field and has a wealth of expertise in community outreach. She received her BA in Biology from Cornell University and holds a Masters in Marine Biology from Boston University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from The University of Hong Kong.
