Trekking

Dr Raynor Shaw
Saturday, 27 Feb 2010
New Territories, Hong Kong
Dr. Raynor Shaw leads his popular annual guided geological trek.

This trip is almost full please contact us before booking.

We are delighted to welcome Dr Raynor Shaw, coauthor of the authoritative guide Hong Kong Landscapes, to lead another field trip. Dr. Shaw was previously a geologist with the Hong Kong Geological Survey and is now a leading geological consultant, including to the new Hong Kong Geopark.

Following several highly enjoyable geological walks, Dr. Shaw leads this field trip along a fabulous route over the Pat Sin Leng escarpment in the North East New Territories, lecturing on the geology, geomorphology, zoology, botany and history of the route during the day.

In contrast to the volcanic and granitic rocks that characterise the majority of Hong Kong, the Pat Sin Leng, a major landform in Hong Kong, is formed in sedimentary conglomerates. The hike begins at the Bride's Pool waterfall, then climbs steadily up the dip slope of the escarpment, which is dissected by steep and winding ravinelike valleys. Emerging at the summit of Wang Leng, the route follows the ridge crest to Ping Fu Shan, before descending the steep scarp slope to Hok Tau Reservoir. The final stage, along an ancient paved track way, takes Members to the fascinating fengshui village of Sha Lo Tung, nestled in the hills above Tai Po.

If you would like to join this walk, please would you complete and return the booking and indemnity forms, initially by email.
