The Boxer uprising
Christopher Patten, Governor of Hong Kong and patron of the branch, introduced the President of the Society, for whom he formerly worked in Government. Lord Jellicoe, highly decorated in military and civic roles, lost his voice on the day so the lecture was instead delivered by a branch member familiar with the topic. The presentation looked at the events of the Boxer uprising, using contemporary photographs and personal letters describing Lord Jellicoe's father's role (Lord Jellicoe of Jutland) in the first relief expedition.
