The boat is to travel along the Tolo Channel, a flooded river valley that follows a major extinct fault line that bisects the HKSAR.  The trip first stops at Lai Chi Chong to examine Jurassic sedimentary and volcanic rocks along the wave-cut platform.  Then, the boat sails to Chek Chau (Port Island) where we circumnavigate the landmass.  Here, we will view dipping sedimentary rocks that were originally formed in a desert setting.  We will then cut across to Bluff Head where the territory’s oldest – at 360 million years – rocks are exposed in a vertical dipping succession. 

The boat then sails to the western end of Double Island to view supratidal platforms and the Yan Chau Tong Marine Park.  Passing through Double Haven, we will see the “Sombrero Islands”, before stopping at Ap Chau, a sedimentary island made up of angular rocks.  Importantly, the island is home to Hong Kong's largest natural sea arch, which we shall walk through. 

The excursion then passes by Kat O to view its steep rugged coastline and sea caves.  We will then pass by Governor's Beach on Double Island, a stunning cove reserved for the Governor's Yacht until the 1970s. 

You have the option of joining the trip at Central and catching our bus to Ma Liu Shui or joining the trip at Ma Liu Shui public ferry pier.

Meet at Central 8.45 am (we will depart at 9 am sharp)
Meet at Ma Liu Shui, Ferry Pier 9.30 am
Arrive at Central: by 6.00 pm

Cost: HK$580 for Members and $680 for Members’ guests. Members may bring guests on this trip, subject to availability.  If you take the bus from Central to Ma Liu Shui and vice versa, please kindly add $50 more for the bus ticket
