Chris Bertish is South African waterman, speaker, adventurer, best-selling author and filmmaker. He has broken many world records and in March 2017 successfully accomplished something that no one has ever come close to achieving. In this talk, he describes the exciting story of how he became the first person to cross the Atlantic Ocean, alone and unsupported, on a stand up paddleboard. The journey was of 7,500 km and 93 days, going from Morocco to Antigua.
The feat was made on a custom-built 6 m stand-up paddle, following five years of preparation. He paddled mainly done at night to avoid sun exposure. On the journey, he also set another world record by travelling the furthest distance solo, unsupported and unassisted over open ocean in a day of 116 kilometres.
