Glories of the Lantau Trail with a private visit to Lung Tsai Ng Yuen Chinese landscaped garden

Lead by Marco Foehn
Sunday, 8 Mar 2015

The Royal Geographical Society is pleased to welcome once again Marco Foehn to lead a field trip to discover some of the most spectacular views that Lantau Island’s Southwest Peninsula has to offer.

The route follows stages 5 & 6 of the Lantau Trail, leading from Sham Wat Road towards Man Cheung Po and continuing all the way to the fishing village of Tai O.  The beautiful landscaped hills offer a pleasant hike with some interesting scenery along the way.

The highlight of the trip is a visit to the Chinese landscaped garden, Lung Tsai Ng Yuen, which is situated directly above a waterfall surrounded by hills.  This garden is usually closed to the public, however an exclusive private visit has been organised for Royal Geographical Society members.

On the route, visible are some of the local wildlife, including insects, grasshoppers, dragonflies and butterflies and, occasionally, an ox can be found grazing.  The ridgeline offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area of Tai O.  This fascinating trip includes a guided stroll through the old fishing village.

Marco Foehn arrived in Hong Kong in the early 1980s and worked as a banker.  Today he is Chief Operating Officer at the German Swiss International School and he is also a Director of WalkHK.  With his passion for Hong Kong, he has shown tourists and locals all around Hong Kong, introducing them to the local history and culture, and explained how this city has grown into a major trading city in Asia.  On this hike, Mr Foehn is assisted by other directors at WalkHK.

Price: HK$200 for Members and $250 for Members' guests. Bus ticket $50.
